What’s new and happening with Kabaal klankbaan

The Bride of Halloween

“UGH. Another one of Kabaal klankbaan’s silly news posts,” is what you’re thinking. “More gig invitations. More spam about music, CDs, and T-shirts for sale.”
Except this one is different. Presenting:

The Bride of Halloween

Kabaal klankbaan plays a lot of shows. But our Halloween show, The Bride of Halloween, is special. And I’d really appreciate it if you come. Even more than usual.

As a little passion project, Kabaal klankbaan has been preparing a super-secret, super-special, super-exclusive, first-time-ever, never-to-be-repeated Halloween set. And a Halloween party. To be played with a Halloween band.

The Bride of Halloween

Did you say “Halloween Party”?

Yes I did. But not actually ON Halloween. That would be way too mainstream. Also it’s a Monday and no-one wants to party on a Monday. So this party happens on THURSDAY 27 October, at Railway Cafe in Irene.
That’s right, if you’re good at convincing you can convince yourself that it’s a very reasonable distance to travel on a weeknight from wherever you live.

Did you say “never-to-be-repeated Halloween set”?

Yes I did. I put together a bunch of my favourite Halloween-flavoured songs, featuring close encounters, werewolves, Martians, transsexuals from Transylvania, chameleons, stalkers, ghosts, voodoo, robots, and more.

The Bride of Halloween

Did you say “Halloween band”?

OH YES I DID. Especially for Halloween, Kabaal klankbaan will have three extra members: Evert Snyman (of Pollinator, Gay Thing, & The Deaf Commission) on drums, Fred van der Merwe (Crystal Park, Shotgun Tori, & The Hellphones) on bass, and Louise Eksteen (Pollinator & Gay Thing) on keyboard & vocals. Another reason this’ll be a not-to-be-missed night!

Is there anything you forgot to mention?

Yip! Also on the lineup is one of Joburg’s most entertaining and funny singer-songwriters, Naming James, and Voodoo-blues lead vocalist of the Black Cat Bones, Kobus de Kock Jnr. This is a great show even if you HATE Kabaal klankbaan!

Details, please?

Kersfees in Julie

As jy nie aan ‘n beter geskenk kan dink as ‘n Kabaal klankbaan konsert nie, het ek goeie nuus vir jou: Dis krismis in Julie!

Hierdie Julie loop daar konserte by my ore uit. Kyk net:

  • 3 Julie: Picnic at the Barn by The Climbing Barn: ‘n Heerlike, rustige, familievriendelike piekniek met lewendige musiek deur Kabaal klankbaan, Roan van As, en DJ Baas de Beer. R50 toegang.
  • 9 Julie: PTA vs. JHB : Final Round part 2 by Railways Cafe: Bobbejaan en “We did this” Records  bied ‘n vriendelike rondte aan waar ‘n paar Johannesburgers op ons tuisveld kom speel. Kabaal klankbaan, Slippery when wet, en Monday Morning Justice. R30 toegang.
  • 16 Julie: Sinkshack in Bronkhorstspruit: ‘n Aangename Saterdagaand by ons gunsteling plek anderkant Donkerhoek. Geen toegangsfooi. Heerlike kos en bier.
  • 17 Julie: Otterlake German Restaurant in Roodeplaat. ‘n Lekker Sondagmiddag met heerlike Duitse kos. Hulle het natuurlik bier ook. Geen toegangsfooi.
  • 23 Julie: Wêreld Records se Winter & Wine (mostly) Acoustic Sessions by Pop Filter Studios in Waterkloof Glen. Met Kabaal klankbaan en Liesbet Grey featuring Ola Kobak.

Dan gaan ek ook bietjie vakansie hou:

  • 6 Aug: Perigators, Pringlebaai

Sien jou daar!

2015 and everything.

I made a list of all the years that have ever been, and 2015 made my Top 5.
Even better: THIS 2015 was my #1 favourite 2015 I’ve ever had. And that was even before the new Star Wars came out.

So thank you. Thanks for coming to shows, still believing in CDs, and listening to the music! Thanks for supporting me all the way to STRAB in Mozambique, Oppikoppi, and from Benoni to Bronkhorstspruit. I was able to make and release my second album this year, and I simply can’t wait to do more.

At my last show of 2015 (16 December at The Good Luck Bar), I made a bootleg recording of the set. You can listen and download it below. It’s a free download, but will only be online for a limited time, so jump if you’re interested.

Kabaal klankbaan Live at the Good Luck Bar bootleg

More news about the future will be coming soon. For now, mark these dates on your calender for Kabaal klankbaan shows:

16 Jan 2016 – Sinkshack, Bronkhorstspruit
22 Jan 2016 – Railways Cafe, Irene

You can always also keep an eye on our website for the latest gig news!

I’ve been busy writing, recording, and planning, and I’m looking forward to sharing as much as possible of these new things with you. Yes, you.

Thanks for being here! 🙂

Kabaal klankbaan is turning 5 and you get a FREE Bonus EP!

Kabaal klankbaan’s newest album, Baptism, has already received some amazing praise:

“Dis baie mooi. Anna het dit ook baie geniet en 3 keer langer gevat as gewoonlik om my kamer skoon te maak, want sy wou nie loop voor die CD nie klaar is nie. Ek dink dis die CD van jou waarvan ek nog nie meeste hou, en dit kom van iemand wat nou al vir die 3de keer 79 is.” – Floris se Ouma Francie

“[Radio Silence] het my uitgeboul right off the bat. Dit maak jou siel stil vir ‘n paar minute. Jy hoor nie meer sulke songs deesdae nie.” – Rolbees, watkykjy.co.za

“Pretty much the best album I’ve ever heard in the world ever ever ever. How is this guy not bigger than The Beatles yet?” – Floris, the very biased guy from Kabaal klankbaan

“How can it be bad if it’s printed on black?” – Some drunk guy at a show once.

And now, since you’ve obviously not gotten enough Baptism, Kabaal klankbaan presents: The Baptism Bonus EP. While recording Baptism, we went kinda overboard and produced five more tracks than what would fit on the album. And now you can have them too.

And because 2 October marks the FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Kabaal klankbaan’s first live show, you can get it for FREE (for a limited time only).

Remember to click the “Download” button to download and keep this EP for free. Then listen to it whenever and wherever you want!

SHOWS SHOWS SHOWS:

After a terrrrrrrrrific album launch tour, some amazing festival shows and special appearances by guest musicians, our shows are winding down for the rest of the year. Kabaal klankbaan will be playing here:

Baptism album launch FAQ’s

When and where is this show?
6 June. 19h30 for 20h00. Asbos Teater, Die Wilgers, Pretoria.

I’ve been to a Kabaal klankbaan show before. How special will this album launch really be?
Without giving too much away, it’ll definitely be Kabaal klankbaan as you’ve never seen it before. This show will feature a full night’s entertainment, including songs from the new album, a few oldies you haven’t heard in a while, new covers, new interpretations, and even the debut of a couple of brand new (not yet recorded) original Kabaal klankbaan songs.
There’ll even be a full band on stage this time… Not to be missed!

Will there be tickets available at the door?
With these things, you never know. The safest option is to make sure you’ve bought tickets in advance from www.asbos.co.za

Since you’re my best friend, can you organise me a couple of free tickets?
No.

Surely there won’t be only ONE show??
While we’ll be playing a couple of shows around Gauteng following the launch, they won’t be as interesting, exciting, and unmissable as the launch show itself. More shows will be announced later.

Will CDs be available for sale?
Yes, thanks to our Indiegogo campaign and amazing support, we pre-sold enough Baptism albums to allow CDs to get printed. On the night, Baptism will be available for a special launch price of R100, and our other CDs and merchandise will be available at bargain prices (especially when bought in bundles).

Is this a grandparents-friendly show?
Yes, even more than usual, this will be a wholesome, whole-family show. Bring your parents, grandparents, and even as great as your great-grandparents go!

Please play my favourite song!
I’ll think about it.

I forgot about tickets again?
At www.asbos.co.za or at the door. That’s for the show on 6 June at 19h30 for 20h00 at Asbos Teater, Die Wilgers, Pretoria. Also see the event on Facebook.
