“It’s personal, heartfelt, and emotional,” says singer-songwriter Floris Groenewald of the new record, “but also doesn’t forget to smile, laugh, and most importantly – rock.” Baptism, self-produced by Groenewald and mostly recorded in Kabaal klankbaan’s bedroom studio, is darker and more intimate than previous releases. Since the majority of the album’s tracks had been written as far back as 2011, many of the songs are already familiar to audiences who have seen Kabaal klankbaan perform more than 100 shows in the past four and a half years.

While retaining the familiar folk-rock elements of Kabaal klankbaan’s previous work and many club, pub, and festival shows, Baptism also explores new sounds, including electric and electronic elements to sonically sketch dark and dystopian landscapes.

Kabaal klankbaan is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Floris Groenewald which mostly takes the form of a solo acoustic performance, but isn’t limited to it. Various musicians and technicians such as session musicians Siobhan Lloyd-Jones and Raldo Mattheus, Indie-folk singers Hey, River and Shotgun Tori, and drummer/mastering engineer Peach van Pletzen, helped craft Baptism, and the album launch show promises to show Kabaal klankbaan “like you’ve never seen it before.”

The album will officially be launched at Asbos Theatre on 6 June 2015 at 19h30 for 20h00. Tickets available from www.asbos.co.za.

Baptism will be available on iTunes in June 2015, and can currently be pre-ordered from http://kabaalklankbaan.bandcamp.com/ – stream preview tracks at http://soundcloud.com/kabaalklankbaan/sets/baptism-preview-tracks.

A Change in the Weather

Okay, okay. Here’s one more preview of the new album. This song is called A Change In The Weather, and features Siobhan Lloyd-Jones on violin.

Please remember our crowdfunding campaign is still ongoing until 27 Feb, and we really need your help:
a) If we don’t reach our goal, the campaign fails, we don’t print CDs, and everyone gets their money back. So please help spread the word, and encourage anyone who might be interested in contributing.
b) An exclusive thankyou/reward for all contributors (even if the campaign is unsuccessful) will be announced soon.
c) If we’re not offering the reward you’d really like as a perk, please let us know!

Thanks!

Kabaal klankbaan wants YOU

Yes, we’re also jumping on the crowdfunding bandwagon. The thing is, we’ve made a new album and it’s practically ready to be released. But the only option we can afford (online-only release, since printing CDs is VERY EXPENSIVE) isn’t good enough. We’re really proud of the album we’ve made, and we’ll only be truly satisfied if everyone can listen to it on CD (as it’s intended).

Therefore, we’re launching a crowdfunding/pre-order campaign on IndieGoGo today. You can regard it as a fundraising project, or a charity case, or just a good, safe way to pre-order our new album. If you’d want to buy our new album, this campaign is by far the best way to do it. There’s even some cool perks to choose from as a reward for your contribution.

So please check out our IndieGoGo project. Even if you just watch the video, and maybe tell some friends about it, you’ll already be making a huge contribution towards the success of our campaign. The CDs can only be printed if the full goal amount (R8 660) is reached, so everyone’s help is needed, and appreciated A LOT!

The last Baptism Bootleg: An original, for once. This version might knock you unconscious, but it won’t actually kill you. I hope.
